Need a Job? Staffing Agencies are Key
If you searched for a job over 10 years ago, you know the difference between the industry then and now. Were you printing stacks of resumes, combing through job ads and newspapers, and going door to door to meet each company? So much more of it is now done online and, better yet, made more efficient with the use of staffing agencies. With most companies utilizing staffing and recruiting agents at some point, they are key to searching for and finding a job.
According to the National Bureau of Labor Statistics, temp and temp-to-hire positions have exploded from 2 million in 2010 to over 3 million today. Staffing agencies in the United States hire, on average, almost 15 million employees each year. There are more than 3 million workers employed by staffing agencies during an average week. Many temporary employees are eventually hired into the company, too, as a permanent employee, so it’s impossible to actually know the number of employees that started as a temp worker.
In Florida, where TransHire has two locations to provide staffing and recruiting services, 652,100 workers were employed by temp agencies in 2016 with an average annual earnings per job of $37,000. Each week, 144,300 workers were employed and the average assignment lasted around 11.5 weeks.
Job seekers are catching on, too. In 2016, 40% of those looking for their first job or re-entering the workforce used a staffing agency. And temp jobs certainly does not mean part-time positions. Actually, 76% of temp workers are employed full-time, very similar to the 82% of the overall workforce. About half (49%) say working with a temp agency is their way to get a permanent job and 90% said staffing work made them more employable. On average, roughly one-third (35%) of temporary or contract employees were offered a permanent job by the company where they were working and two-thirds (66%) accepted those offers to be hired on.
When you apply at a staffing agency, they often have a number of active clients with open positions or the possibility of new positions opening up each day. They do the legwork for you, finding positions that are a match for your skills, sending your resume, and setting up an interview. If you’re job searching or looking to re-enter the workforce, find your local temporary staffing agencies and apply!
